The developer behind LoDo’s Dairy Block hopes to build another mixed-use project. The parties are asking the city to rezone the site.
The project would replace an existing hotel at the site.
Taki Sushi is taking the space previously occupied by Spatola Ristorante & Wine Bar.
The seller had owned the Blake Street property for three decades.
“Everything is extremely fresh — we get deliveries three times a week — which is why we’ve been so successful,” general manager Poly Sim said.
The joint venture that sold Denver Corporate Center II and III paid $40.5 million for the structures in 2016; one was vacant at the time.
The firm and partner Craft Cos. purchased the property this year for $6.17 million.
“The general idea is figuring out how to run a restaurant based on statistics,” said Peter Newlin, who runs the chicken sandwich shop’s parent company and affiliated technology firm.
Somebody People gets its name from a David Bowie song. “We want it to be a restaurant first and foremost, that just happens to not use any meat or dairy or seafood.”
