Topgolf keeps swinging away in Thornton.

After bailing on its first desired site in the city, the golf entertainment giant now wants to open a facility near the Larkridge shopping center on a parcel northeast of the junction of 160th Avenue and Interstate 25.

The Dallas-based company has asked Thornton City Council to approve plans for a 65,000-square-foot facility with a restaurant and 102 driving bays across three stories.

The council will vote on the matter Dec. 5.

If approved, Topgolf will add to the second phase of the Larkridge development, which includes a Costco, Sears and other retailers. It submitted plans to build on 28 acres just south of Costco, according to the Larkridge website.

Topgolf, which opened a Centennial venue in 2015, has been searching for its second Colorado location for nearly two years.

The company originally pegged a site 4 miles south of Larkridge near Thorncreek Golf Course. But nearby neighbors argued the development would be disruptive to nearby residences.

One of those neighbors, Lotte Radoor, filed a lawsuit against the city this year, and won. When the city amended zoning rules in an effort to pave way for Topgolf, she sued again. It bailed on the site in November.

The new parcel is less likely to encounter problems, as it’s currently zoned for regional commercial development, according to the city. The site is at least 350 feet away from any residential zoning.
