Fortis Bank taking chunk of Western Union space in DTC

A downtown bank is taking space in the Denver Tech Center.

Fortis Bank is building out a 22,000-square-foot office on the eighth floor of the One Belleview Station building at 7001 E. Belleview Ave., according to permit filings submitted to the city of Denver.

Fortis declined to comment. The bank is headquartered at 1550 17th St. in downtown Denver and also has offices in Centennial and near Salt Lake City. Founded in 1997 as Front Range Bank, it specializes in commercial and business banking, with $1.3 billion i total assets, per its LinkedIn account.  

National firm Interior Architects drew up the plans for Fortis. 

The bank will go into former Western Union space. The financial services firm is headquartered in the 15-story building and built out offices on floors nine through 15, as well as portions of floors one, six and eight, according to a contractor on the project.

Western Union has also been attempting to sublease floors nine and 10, according to marketing brochures obtained by BusinessDen. Each floor spans nearly 30,000 square feet with a lease term ending in March 2031.

Western Union declined to comment. Its stock price closed at $10.25 a share Wednesday afternoon, down nearly 19 percent in the past year. 

The 15-story, 318,000-square-foot One Belleview Station building was completed in 2017 by local developer Prime West and sold for $152 million a year later. It was fully leased at the time.
