It took just north of $500 million in brokered residential sales in 2022 to crack the top 25 for the region, according to data provided by the local listing service.
Denver metro’s top 25 real estate brokerages sold $27 billion worth of homes last year, or 42 percent of the total, according to MLS data compiled by REColorado.
The agents at those companies handled 40 percent of the total transactions, and 42 percent of the total valuation, recorded by the MLS during 2022’s volatile market.
Also of note: Denver’s residential real estate market has changed dramatically in the past five years, with new companies like Compass and Redfin dominating the market. For example, Compass-Denver’s $4.1 billion in total sales is nearly double what second-place company HomeSmart generated and rocketed the firm to the No.1 slot.
Compass was founded in 2012 and opened its first Denver metro office in 2019. It went public in 2021 with an $8 billion valuation. But the past two years have been challenging. Its stock, which traded at about $20 per share at launch, is down 80 percent to below $5 per share. And the company has been slashing jobs.
Redfin, meanwhile, closed RedfinNow, its “iBuyer” and home-flipping business in November. The company also laid off about 1,400 employees nationally in 2022.
