Municipal lobbying firm buys building three blocks from Denver city hall

Municipal lobbying firm CRL Associates is moving its offices to the Golden Triangle.

The firm’s four partners purchased the two-story building at 1137 N. Bannock St. last month, paying $1.14 million, according to public records.

Managing partner Roger Sherman told BusinessDen last week that the company hopes to move in by early August.

“We just saw this as a unique opportunity to stay in the geographic area that we feel works for us,” he said.

CRL has been leasing space at 1660 Lincoln St. for about seven years, Sherman said, and before that spent about 24 years at Denver World Trade Center, now known as Denver Energy Center, in the 1600 block of Broadway.

“We like to be close to the (Denver) City and County building,” Sherman said.

The city hall is at 1437 Bannock St. — “three blocks exactly to the number,” he noted.

Firm leadership hadn’t specifically been looking to buy, but tax benefits and a sense of greater control over the company’s future were appealing, Sherman said.

CRL’s new building is 2,817 square feet, according to city property records, and sits on a 3,750-square-foot lot. CRL has been using about 2,800 square feet at 1660 Lincoln.

The building had been owned by 1137 Bannock LLC, and last sold for $420,000 in March 2015.

CRL has 10 staff members, counting its partners. Sherman said the firm is incorporating spaces that appeal to both its older and younger staffers.

“The building allows us to have more traditional offices on the second floor, but a more collaborative environment on the first floor,” he said.

Along with Sherman, CRL’s partners are Kim Kucera, Sean Maley and firm founder Maria Garcia Berry.

The company’s clients include the Regional Transportation District.

The firm was also involved in the development of McGregor Square and worked for developer Property Markets Group in connection with the owner-opposed landmark application submitted earlier this year for Denver7’s building at 123 Speer Blvd.

The Denver City Council rejected the landmark application.
