The Save-A-Lot at 2630 W. 38th Ave. closed Friday. (Burl Rolett)

A Highlands discount supermarket has sold its last bag of groceries.

The Save-A-Lot at 2630 W. 38th Ave. closed its doors on Friday. The store is leaving an 18,000-square-foot retail building at the southwest corner of 38th Avenue and Bryant Street.

New York-based Kimco Realty owns the Save-A-Lot property. That firm bought the property in 1998 for $800,000, city records show. The real estate includes the 55-year-old supermarket building and about 1½ acres of land.

Kimco representatives did not respond to requests for comment Monday.

Save-A-Lot still has a presence in North Denver with a location at Pecos Street and 48th Avenue.
