Kevin Mason, founder of Honey Smoked Fish Co., is looking to sell his Cherry Hills Village mansion for nearly double what he paid.

Mason purchased the 14,500-square-foot home at 9 Sedgwick Drive in 2019 for $3.2 million and listed it with Stuart Crowell and James Falcone with Compass-Denver on Feb. 13 for $6 million.

Mason initially listed the home, constructed in 1976, for $8.9 million in March 2023 with Engel & Volkers before lowering the price several times to $6.95 million in May and ultimately removing the listing in July.

Crowell and Falcone researched before recommending the new price and encouraged the seller to make changes, including repainting and using different staging.

“This isn’t a standard home,” Crowell said. “It’s very different from its neighbors and we wanted to showcase how rare and distinctive it is.”

The home sits on an elevated acre-plus lot in the Devonshire Heights neighborhood, a small enclave of 52 homes with only one street providing access.

Crowell said Mason was attracted by the home’s privacy and large size. He made cosmetic and mechanical improvements, including replacing the roof, skylights, flooring and carpeting. He also added security cameras, home water and air filtration systems, and a smart home system to control the lighting. It also includes an alarm system and a dedicated patrol team.

The eight-bedroom, 11-bath home also boasts what Crowell called one of the best offices in Cherry Hills.

The office occupies most of the second floor and includes circular wood features on the ceiling, a fireplace and a balcony.

The home’s entrance includes a custom-lighted water feature. The sunroom opens to a terrace with mountain views, a heated saltwater pool, a hot tub and a concert-grade sound system.

The chef’s kitchen includes top-tier KitchenAid and Viking appliances, and the primary suite offers pool access and a spa-inspired bath.

The five-car heated garage includes epoxy floors, hot and cold water access, RV parking with sewage disposal and a tandem limousine bay.

Mason, who owns several properties, decided to sell the mansion because he didn’t use it enough.

Falcone said the home would likely appeal to a professional athlete or executive who wants privacy and security. It also would appeal to artists who want space to display artwork. The home also could serve as a venue for charity events.

Prospective buyers who have toured the mansion include a mix of local residents and people from California and New York.

Mason founded Honey Smoked Fish in 1994. Nebraska-based private equity firm McCarthy Capital acquired the company for an undisclosed price in 2018.
