A former Amazon Books location in Cherry Creek North will become a bank branch.

Huntington Bank, which opened its first location here in 2021 and has big expansion plans in Colorado, will take the ground floor at 2787 E. 2nd Ave. sometime this summer.

That address is an eight-story office building known as Financial House that opened in 2019. Its first ground-floor tenant was Amazon Books, which debuted with fanfare that year but, like other Amazon Books locations nationwide, closed up shop in 2022.

“This location, at the corner of East 2nd Avenue and Detroit Street, will have approximately 4,500 square feet split into two separate spaces,” said Huntington spokesperson Kris Dahl, “one a standard retail branch and the other housing members of our wealth management group from Huntington Private Bank and Huntington Financial Advisors.”

The new branch is part of Huntington’s plan to grow from 32 locations in the state to 52 within three years. That includes a new branch at 1700 Pearl St. in Boulder this summer and two more in central Denver late this year. Addresses for those have not been announced.

“One primary goal of this expansion is to improve our density in the Denver metro, adding locations in parts of the city that aren’t fully served by our existing network,” Dahl said.

Financial House was developed by BMC Investments and then sold months after completion to EverWest Real Estate Investors for $55 million. EverWest became Sagard Real Estate in October.
