The breakup of a civil rights and employment law firm has put an office mansion in the City Park neighborhood on the market for the first time since the turn of the century.
King & Greisen operated for 23 years out of a century-old, 4,900-square-foot house at 1670 York St. until its partners went their separate ways over the past year.
As a result of the split, the three-story building is up for sale. It is one block from City Park and East High School. SRS Real Estate Partners, which is marketing the building, is hoping to get $1.7 million for it.
“It’s a beautiful building on a corner lot with great exposure and access,” said SRS broker Tami Lord. “It also has its own parking lot and outdoor green space. Inside, the current layout offers multiple offices with lots of natural light, but it could also be opened up on one or more floors to create a more collaborative workspace.”
King & Greisen occupied the entire building, which includes two conference rooms, a welcoming lobby and a waiting area just off the main entrance, along with a basement for storage. Lord said the office mansion could house multiple tenants “with some creativity.”
“But it is really better suited for one tenant or one tenant with ancillary companies that operate simultaneously,” she said. “It would also make a good redevelopment opportunity.”

King & Greisen bought the mansion in 2000 for $562,000, or one-third of what it hopes to sell it for, city records show. Before that it sold for $285,000 in 1999 and $136,000 in 1995.
Meanwhile, what was once one law firm is now three, with their own areas of expertise.
Diane King, who was the King in King & Greisen, formed King Employment Law alongside four other attorneys. Paula Greisen co-founded Greisen Medlock, a civil rights firm. And Meredith Munro, another King & Greisen alum, started the employment firm Munro Law.
All three attorneys declined requests last week to discuss when and why the firm split up.
