RiNo marketing firm expanding office footprint after buying building

After more than 10 years in Denver, a local marketing firm has purchased its RiNo office.

Voco Creative purchased the 4,500-square-foot building at 3700 Franklin St. in April for $1.2 million and has begun renovating the second floor as it prepares to expand its footprint by 50 percent.

The firm received an SBA loan of $500,000 last month.

“The full amount of that loan was to purchase the building that we’re at,” said Juli Dimos, founder and managing partner. “We’ve been renting this building for three years. We had the opportunity to purchase it, and now we get to occupy the upstairs and continue to be part of this really vibrant community.”

Voco originally rented the two-story building’s 3,000-square-foot first floor. The firm, which has 20 employees, will take over the second floor when the renovation is complete. Dimos hopes the work will be completed within six months.

“Our team is really tight in the space right now that we have,” she said. “We’ll be expanding to up there and potentially hiring.”

Voco was interested in buying the building when it moved in three years ago, but the owner was not looking to sell at the time.

“We kept bugging her over the years,” Dimos said. “I’ve been living in the neighborhood for 12 years with my family and love it, and there’s just so much going on.”

Dimos, who has a background in computer science and design, started Voco in 2008 while her husband was going through grad school.

“It was the perfect time to start a business — right when the economy was crashing,” Dimos said.

Voco originally focused on tech startups and natural food companies. Three years ago, Dimos brought in Jennifer McGhee, a previous client who is now a managing partner.

Voco helps brands with branding, market research, content creation, advertising and other forms of marketing. Past clients include Boulder Brands, Bhakti Chai, Smart Balance and Progresso. Because so many of Voco’s clients are in the natural food space, the company’s office also includes a kitchen set up for food photography and other projects.
