A Canadian firm building a downtown Denver condominium complex has purchased the land next to it for a possible second project.
Amacon, which is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, paid $10.6 million last week for the 0.64-acre parking lot at 1925 N. Broadway. That works out to $378 a square foot.
“Amacon is confident in the future of Denver and we continue to see strong long-term demand for thoughtfully designed condominium communities,” Vice President of Executive Operations Stepan Vdovine said in an email.
Amacon has been building the 461-unit Uptown Residences complex since 2022 at 525 18th St. It features two towers topping out at 39 and 32 stories atop a shared podium.
In 2023, the firm proposed a second, similar project immediately behind Upton Residences. Vdovine confirmed the company is still pursuing it.
“While this planning is underway, there is no specific timeline to announce at this time,” he said.
That second development site comprises two parcels: 1800 Welton St. and 1925 N. Broadway.
Amacon has owned the 1800 Welton lot since late 2022, when it paid $4.7 million. It subsequently turned a 7-Eleven there into a sales center for Upton Residences.
Last week’s deal for 1925 N. Broadway gives the firm full control of the potential development site for the second complex. The seller in the deal was the Patten-Davis Foundation, which purchased the lot in 2004 for $2.5 million, records show.
Vdovine said Upton Residences will be completed later this year.
“We are excited to deliver the largest condominium project completed in Denver since 2009, and we look forward to sharing more about future plans when the timing is appropriate,” he said.
