The Ballpark neighborhood is calling up Kate McKenna to be its starter.
On Wednesday, the new Ballpark General Improvement District announced that McKenna will serve as its first executive director.Â
McKenna previously worked for the Wrigleyville BID in Chicago, a similar-type district oriented around the Chicago Cubsâ Wrigley Field. Before then, she worked for the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce in Texas.Â
The Ballpark GID, which is funded by property taxes, was established last November by a successful ballot initiative. The district is bounded by Coors Field to the west and 20th Street to the south, with some spillover past Broadway to the north and east.Â
McKenna already lives in the neighborhood, having moved there last year from Chicago.
âI was connected to the Denver team of the âWorld Wide Wallsâ organization through my mural program work in Chicago and jumped at the opportunity to relocate to help them grow their festival here. I was also drawn in by the mid-size of the City, the neighborhood feel of its urban areas, and because my sister lived here,â she told BusinessDen in an email.
The GID has a revenue of $1.3 million annually, and was formed by the neighborhood to keep the streets clean and safe. Part of that includes daily patrols by uniformed Ballpark âambassadorsâ that help the homeless find services, conduct daily cleanings of public spaces and work to prevent crime.
McKenna will oversee all of those programs and services in her new role, reporting to a GID board that consists of Ballpark residents, business owners and representatives from the Rockies and social services providers.Â
She was selected out of 361 applicants, according to the announcement.
