Pending La Loma restaurants opening following Brinkerhoff divorce

La Loma is open for business in Parker.

“It’s been great so far,” said Will Brinkerhoff Jr., the son of owner Renee Brinkerhoff. “It was in the works for two to three years, and it just turned out really beautifully.”

The Mexican spot at 9355 Crown Crest Blvd. opened on Cinco de Mayo. Renee also plans to open another La Loma at 8000 E. Belleview Ave. in Greenwood Village in the next month or two, Will Jr. said.

The new long-planned spots are two of the three restaurants that Renee was awarded through a contentious divorce from ex-husband William Brinkerhoff.

He retained ownership of the La Loma locations in downtown Denver and Castle Rock, as well as Sierra in Lone Tree.

The third restaurant that Renee was awarded was Caldero in McGregor Square, which court records state was struggling, with losses up to $100,000 a month since opening two years ago. She converted it into a La Loma restaurant in March.

Since the rebrand, Will Jr. said there’s been a bump in sales, though he declined to give specific figures.

“We’re doing better. It’s heading in the right direction,” he said. “It’s going to turn out to be a successful location.”

Asked what his role with the restaurants is, Will Jr. said he’s helping Renee “with whatever she needs.” He, along with his sister Christina, sided with Renee in the divorce, while Mark and Julia Brinkerhoff, the ex-couple’s middle children, sided with their father.

Each side has a separate website for its respective La Loma restaurants. They show menus that are nearly identical — including La Loma’s signature green chile recipe.

William and Mark did not respond to a request for comment from BusinessDen.

“Renee plans to maintain high standards for the brand and customer experience and maintain the integrity of the menu, dishes that are served, the atmosphere,” Will Jr. said. “All of that will be maintained at a high level.”

He declined to address how similar the separate restaurant groups would remain in the future, saying there isn’t necessarily a formal agreement laying out how in sync William and Renee’s spots have to be.

“I can’t speak to that directly, but I can say that Renee intends to maintain the menu and the standards of the recipes and dishes that consumers have grown to love,” Will Jr. said.

Though litigation between the couple has settled, Renee is still suing Steven Revenig and the Brinkerhoff Revenig & Corrigan accounting firm for allegedly conspiring with William and Mark to remove her from restaurant ownership.

A jury trial is scheduled to begin June 23 in Denver District Court.

“I can’t speak for everyone,” Will Jr. said. “But I think anyone would agree (that) we’re thankful to have (this) behind us.”
