New brokers fill firm’s investment void

One of Denver’s largest commercial brokerages has a new twosome in charge of investment sales after the firm’s previous team bolted to a competitor.

Jon Hendrickson and Aaron Johnson joined Cushman & Wakefield of Colorado last month.

Hendrickson left Marcus & Millichap Institutional Property Advisors, where he was vice president of investments. Johnson was previously vice president of investments for Etkin Johnson Real Estate Partners.

“This platform was such a unique opportunity for Aaron and me to come together to be able to build an investment sales business that does truly cover the market within office and retail,” Hendrickson said.

Both brokers have about a decade in the real estate business. Hendrickson said he has sold more than $700 million in investment properties and said Johnson has more experience owning and developing real estate in Denver.

C&W Managing Director James Mansfield said Hendrickson and Johnson’s experience made the pair a good fit.

“I think that they bring a unique blend of transactional experience from a brokerage, as well as from an ownership, perspective,” Mansfield said. “They provide something that gives investors a unique perspective.”

Hendrickson, a graduate of the University of Iowa, and Johnson, a CU Boulder grad, take the helm almost four months after capital markets duo Mike Winn and Tim Richey left for similar positions at CBRE after more than 15 years with C&W.

Cushman & Wakefield approached Hendrickson and Johnson about the job last year, Hendrickson said, and the pair hammered out a business plan through the fourth quarter of 2014.

They officially began work at Cushman & Wakefield’s 17th Street office in December.

Hendrickson and Johnson will focus on office and retail investment sales; sticking to the Denver area at least for now.

“Our primary focus will be along the Front Range, but we will also be taking on assignments throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region on a case-by-case basis, as relationships lead us to those opportunities,” Hendrickson said.
